Cheese Fatayer 2

Ingredients

Dough

  • Instant yeast 1/2 tbsp
  • Sugar 1 tbsp
  • Milk powder 1 tbsp
  • Egg ½, beaten
  • Warm water 125 ml
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Plain flour 1.5 cups

Topping

  • Mozzarella cheese 1 cup
  • Kiri squares 3 or any other cream cheese 2 tbsp
  • Kalonji (nigella seeds) 1 tsp
  • Salt 1/4 tsp

Other

  • Whisked egg

Preparation

Dough

  1. To a mixing bowl, add yeast, sugar, milk powder, egg, oil and warm water.
  2. Whisk well until lump free.
  3. Add plain flour and knead to form a smooth dough.
  4. Cover and allow to rise until double in size (30-45 minutes).
  5. Roll the dough into 1/2 cm thick round sheets.
  6. Topping: Mix mozzarella cheese, kalonji and salt together.
  7. Put the kalonji and cheese mix along the edges of the round dough sheet and fold the ends inwards to create a stuffed crust. Please watch my video for full demonstration.
  8. Cut the kiri cubes into 4 parts and spread on the center of the dough.
  9. Top with mozzarella cheese.
  10. Brush the crust with whisked egg and top with some kalonji.
  11. Bake the fatayer in a preheated oven at 200°C for 10-12 minutes using upper and lower both rods.
