Chinese Pepper Chicken (Tastes like our Shashlik)

Ingredients

Skewers

  • Chicken cubes 1 kg
  • Salt ¾ tbsp (or to taste)
  • Red chili powder 1/2 tbsp or more
  • Cumin powder 1.5 tbsp
  • Oregano 1.5 tbsp
  • Garlic powder 1 tbsp
  • Paprika powder 3 tbsp
  • Oil 7-8 tbsp

Gravy

  • Oil 3 tbsp
  • Ginger paste1/2 tbsp
  • Garlic paste 1/2 tbsp
  • Onion 1 big, thickly sliced
  • Green bell pepper 1 big, thickly sliced
  • Red bell pepper 1 big, thickly slices
  • Ketchup 1/2 cup
  • Tomato sauce 1/4 cup
  • Soy sauce 1/4 cup
  • Chili sauce to taste
  • Chicken cubes 2
  • Brown sugar 1 tbsp (or white sugar)
  • Water 3 cups
  • Corn flour 2 tbsp, mixed in 1/2 cup water

Garnish

  • Spring onions, sliced
  • Fresh red chili, sliced

Preparation

  1. Skewers: Mix all the ingredients and add chicken to it. Mix well and allow to marinate for 30 minutes. Then thread them on the Skewer.
  2. Heat few tbsp of oil on griddle or pan and add the skewers.
  3. Cook on both sides until 100% done.
  4. Gravy: While the skewers are grilling, take a wok, heat oil and add ginger and garlic paste, onion and bell peppers.
  5. Sauté until the raw smell of ginger and garlic is gone.
  6. Now add ketchup, tomato sauce, soy sauce/oyster sauce, chicken cubes, sugar and water. Allow to come to a boil. Adjust the taste and add corn flour mixed in water.
  7. Stir until the sauce thickens.
  8. Serve this gravy with skewers on a plate of rice.
  9. Enjoy!
