Chinese Tomato Fish

Ingredients

Fish marination

  • Fish 1 kg
  • Fresh lemon rind 3/4 tsp
  • Lemon juice 2 tbsp
  • Salt 1/2 tsp

Gravy

  • Oil 1 tbsp
  • Onion 1 big, finely chopped
  • Garlic 1 tbsp, finely chopped
  • Green chilies 1-2, deseeded and chopped
  • Red bell pepper 1, finely chopped
  • Tomato paste 2 tbsp
  • Chicken cubes 2
  • Cumin powder 1 tsp
  • Paprika powder 2 tsp
  • Water 3 cups (or more as preferred)
  • Tomato 1-2 big sized, chopped

Slurry

  • Corn flour 1 tbsp
  • Water 4 tbsp

Garnish

  • Fresh coriander

Preparation

  1. Cut fish into 1 inch pieces. Marinate with salt, lemon juice and lemon rind. Allow to marinate until the gravy is ready.
  2. Gravy: Heat oil in a pot and add onions and garlic. Sauté until soft.
  3. Add green chilies and red nell pepper and sauté for 1 minute.
  4. Add tomato paste, chicken cubes, cumin powder, paprika powder and water.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat until water starts to boil.
  6. Now add fish pieces and again cover and cook for 4-5 minutes or until the fish is cooked.
  7. Lastly, make slurry by mixing corn flour in water.
  8. Add slurry to the fish gravy and stir until the gravy is thick and glossy.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander.
  10. Serve hot with boiled rice. Enjoy!
