Chocolate Filled Donuts

Ingredients

(makes 16 donuts)

  • Plain flour 500 grams (4 cups minus 5 tbsp)
  • Instant yeast 2 tbsp
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Sugar 1/4
  • Luke-warm milk 1 cup
  • Eggs 2 at room temperature
  • Butter 60 grams at room temperature

Topping options:

  1. Sugar
  2. Cinnamon mixed sugar

Filling options:

  1. I used chico nut chocolate spread (like Nutella)
  2. Strawberry jam
  3. Cream cheese mixed with powdered sugar
  4. Honey

Preparation

  1. In a mixing bowl, add plain flour, salt, sugar and instant yeast. Mix well.
  2. In a small bowl add luke-warm milk and eggs, Whisk well and add to the flour mixture.
  3. Knead until combined.
  4. Add butter and start kneading. Knead for 7-8 minutes or until the dough is smooth and lump-free.
  5. Cover and allow to rise until doubled in size (30-40 minutes).
  6. Now deflate the dough and cut into 16 pieces. We need to be quick now. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten each ball into 1/2 inch thick disc and place on baking paper squares.
  7. Cover with a cloth and allow to rise again until double (10-12 minutes).
  8. Fry the donuts in oil on low heat until golden on both sides.
  9. Coat the hot donuts in  sugar and insert a butter knife to make some space for filling.
  10. Put the filling in a piping bag and fill the donut with it.
  11. Enjoy!
