Ingredients
- Yogurt 1 cup
- Oil 2-3 tbsp
- Dried red chili (long or round) 2
- Bay leaves 2
- Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
- Onion 1 small, thickly sliced
- Green chili 1
- Garlic clove 1
- Ginger 1 inch
- Salt to taste
- Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
- Kashmiri red chili powder 1/2 tsp (or red chili powder for extra heat)
- Garam masala 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
Preparation
- Whisk yogurt until smooth and lump free. Keep aside.
- Chop together green chili, garlic and ginger in a hand chopper or grater. Keep aside.
- In a pan, add oil, red chilies, bay leaves and cumin seeds, fry on low until aromatic.
- Add chopped veggies and sauté until the raw smell of ginger and garlic goes away.
- Add onions and sauté until the onions are translucent but still crunchy. Crunchy texture gives nice taste to the dahi fry.
- Now add salt, turmeric powder, Kashmiri red chili powder, garam masala and coriander powder. Sauté for 30 seconds on low heat and turn the flame off.
- Add this mixture to the whisked yogurt and mix well.
- Dahi fry is ready.
- Enjoy with your favorite paratha, naan or rice dish!
