Ingredients
- Onion 1, sliced
- Garlic paste 1 tsp
- Oil 1/4 cup
- Tomato 2 medium, chopped
- Salt to taste
- Red chili powder 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
- Dal mash 1 cup
- Water to cover the dal
- Garam masala 1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
- Cumin powder 1/2 tsp
- Fresh coriander chopped
- Fresh green chilies chopped
- Ginger julienned 1 tsp
Preparation
- Wash and soak the dal in water for 4-5 hours or overnight in the fridge until it doubles in size.
- Heat oil in a cooker and add the onion and cook until they start to turn golden.
- Add garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute
- Add tomatoes, cover and cook until tomatoes are mushy the masala leaves the oil.
- Add salt, chili powder and turmeric powder, Sauté for a minute and add dal and enough water to cover the dal.
- Put the pressure on for 2 minutes.
- Let the pressure release and check if the dal is ready. If not, cook on low flame for 5-10 minutes.
- Lastly, add fresh coriander, ginger and chilies. Sprinkle garam masala, coriander powder and green chilies. Give it all a good stir.
- Serve hot with roti and raita. Enjoy!
