Ingredients:

  • Butter 100 grams
  • Date paste 300 grams
  • Kiri squares 4 (or 4 tablespoon of cream cheese)
  • Water 150 ml
  • Condensed milk 1/2 can (225 grams)
  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour 150 grams (or 1 cup and 2 tablespoons)
  • Milk 1/2 cup

preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven at 180 *C for 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, measure butter and add to a food processor.
  3. Now add date paste to it.
  4. If you don’t have date paste, soak dates overnight in little water, next day de-seed them and blend them with minimum water to make thickest paste possible.
  5. Now add kiri squares, water and condensed milk.
  6. Blend thoroughly. Transfer to a bowl.
  7. Measure the all purpose flour and add to the date mixture. Whisk thoroughly using hand whisk.
  8. Add baking powder and whisk with hand.
  9. When mixed, add milk and mix again.
  10. NOTE: If you have made date paste at home by adding water, the chances are that the date paste is not as thick. In this case use less milk. We want thick and creamy batter and not the runny texture. The batter should hold its shape. It should be that thick.
  11. Prepare a pan by greasing with butter and dusting with all purpose flour.
  12. Pour the batter into the pan.
  13. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  14. Take it out form the oven and allow to cool to room temperature.
  15. Cut into squares. Date bars are ready.
  16. Enjoy with tea.
