Jhat pat Khattay Aloo Chanay Recipe

Ingredients

  • Potatoes 2, biggest size available
  • Boiled chickpeas 1 cup (optional)
  • Salt 1/2 tsp
  • Black salt 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder 1/2 tsp
  • Chat masala 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder 1 tsp
  • Ginger powder 1 tsp
  • Tamarind pulp (imli ka ras) 3-4 tbsp or more
  • Tomato 1 small size, diced
  • Fresh coriander
  • Onion 1 small size, chopped
  • Green chili sliced, 1-2

Preparation

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into 1-inch chunks.
  2. Boil until just done. Drain the water and set aside.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet and add boiled potatoes and boiled chickpeas (if available)
  4. Stir fry for 1 minute.
  5. Add salt, black salt, red chili powder, chat masala, cumin powder and ginger powder.
  6. Mix and cook for a minute or less until the spices are coated on the potatoes evenly.
  7. Add tamarind pulp. Mix and turn the flame off.
  8. Add chopped tomatoes, chopped onions, fresh coriander and fresh chopped green chilies.
  9. Jhat pat khattay aloo chanay is ready.
  10. Serve hot or warm.
  11. You can top it with some mint chutney and some papri. Enjoy as an evening snack or a side dish with some dal.
