Kofta Curry – Mutton Meatball Curry​

Kofta Curry / Mutton Meatball Curry

Ingredients

Meatballs/Koftay­

  • Mutton/beef mince 1/2 kg
  • Onion 1 big sized
  • Ginger paste 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic paste 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilies 2, chopped
  • Fresh coriander 2 tbsp
  • Yogurt 3 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder 1 tsp
  • Gram flour 2 tbsp [roasted]

Gravy

  • Oil 1/2 cup
  • Onions 2 big, sliced
  • Ginger paste 1 tsp
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Tomato 1 big
  • Yogurt 1 + 1/2 cup (reduce the quantity if the yogurt is sour)
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chili powder 1/2 to 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder 2 tsp

Preparation

  1. Add yogurt, onion, ginger paste, garlic paste, green chilies and fresh coriander to a chopper and chop well.
  2. Slowly add the mince and keep the chopper running until all the mixture has combined well.
  3. Now take it out in a bowl and add salt, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder and cumin powder. Also add dry roasted gram flour.
  4. Mix and allow to marinate for 2-3 hours in refrigerator or preferably overnight.
  5. Next day, shape into meatballs and keep aside.
  6. In a cooking pot add oil and fry onions until golden. Add ginger and garlic paste and fry for 1 more minute until aromatic.
  7. Add tomatoes, cover and allow to cook until the tomatoes are softened.
  8. Add yogurt, salt, red chili powder ,turmeric powder, garam masala, coriander powder and cumin powder. Mix and allow to cook covered until the gravy leaves the oil.
  9. Blend into a smooth paste using hand mixer.
  10. Now add enough water to thin out the gravy and add meatballs.
  11. Cover and allow to cook on low flame for 20-25 minutes until cooked.
  12. Sprinkle some garam masala and serve hot with naan or roti. Enjoy!
