Orange Chicken
Ingredients For marinade:
- Orange zest 1 teaspoon
- Fresh orange juice (I used Valencia oranges) 1/2 Cup
- Vinegar 1/3 Cup
- Soy sauce 1/4 Cup
- Sugar 1/4 Cup
- Ginger powder 1/4 teaspoon
- Chili sauce/hot sauce 1 teaspoon (or more according to your taste)
- Black pepper to taste
- Garlic paste 1 teaspoon
- Grated onion (with juices) 3 tablespoons
- Chicken cube 1
- Water 1 Cup
- Egg 1
ingredients For Chicken:
- Boneless chicken 1 Kg
- 2 tablespoons corn starch + 2 tablespoons water (mix both)
- Extra corn starch 1 Cup
- Oil for frying as needed
- Sesame seeds for garnishing
ingredients For orange topping:
- Fresh oranges (I used Valencia oranges) 1/2 Cup
- Lime 1
- Sugar (only if the oranges are not sweet enough)1 tablespoon
- Chili flakes to taste
- Orange cut into chunks
preparation:
Step 1: Marination
- Cut chicken into 1-inch cubes.
- Mix all the ingredients for marinade and add to the chicken cubes.
- Marinate for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Topping Preparation
- Cook all the ingredients together to make a topping.
Step 3: Cooking
- Strain the chicken out of the marinade.
- Cook the marinade on high flame, when it boils add corn starch mixed in water. Cook until the sauce is thickened.
- Dip the chicken pieces in egg and then in corn starch.
- Deep fry (don’t shallow fry otherwise the coating will come off).
- Make sure the chicken pieces are cooked completely.
- Mix the chicken in the warm sauce. Sprinkle the sesame seeds and top with orange dressing.
- Serve hot with boiled rice and enjoy!
